RFG Insurance is a family-owned and operated independent insurance agency, founded in 1980. RFG is dedicated to the belief that customers deserve not only courteous and professional service, but also the lowest rates possible. RFG has grown into a respected service provider with specialists who are committed to serving your needs.

Kenneth D. (Ken) Smith began his insurance career in Culver City in 1964 in a small agency whose primary focus was personal lines. Its subsequent purchase presented him the opportunity to expand into commercial lines as well, and his career as a full-service broker was launched.

The creation of a specialized restaurant package that included property, liability, crime, workers’ compensation and medical coverage led his developing a Workers’ Compensation Group for the 100+ members of the Bay Area Chapter of the California Restaurant Association that provided competitive group rates as well as sizeable dividends over a ten-year period. Ken’s desire to further expand into programming for the restaurant-hotel niche led to the opening of RFG (Restaurant and Food Groups) Insurance Services in 1980.

Following the 1994 Northridge earthquake however, concerned apartment house owners and condominium association representatives began calling in search of comprehensive property and liability coverage with affordable earthquake options. Ken responded by obtaining a direct appointment with CIBA (California Industrial Building Owners Association) to meet those needs. RFG now provides coverage to an excess of 3,000 units in the greater Los Angeles basin and is one of CIBA’s leading agencies. Ken continues to stay current in a constantly changing field, with continuing education courses that range from personal lines and industry-specific commercial coverages to business law and ethics.

Paul J. Smith has joined his father in the agency, having received his agent’s, broker’s life and disability, and securities licenses all within the past two years. Paul’s expertise lies in moving the agency forward by utilizing the latest in technological advances to provide creative solutions to client requirements. His role in marketing the firm’s array of both personal and business coverages advances RFG Insurance Services’ accessibility to a larger number of markets without sacrificing its commitment to personal service.
